Yeah makes no sense to me. But it's the government.. ANd they say in the military everything is done for a reason and nothing without.

2019-01-14 08:43:08 UTC

that's a lie, the military does all sorts of shit with no reason

2019-01-14 08:43:37 UTC

Yeah that's what i thought but that's what was drilled into our heads by our drill sergeants.

2019-01-14 08:45:25 UTC

No we never used those in the navy, we tucked our pants into our boots

2019-01-14 08:46:16 UTC

well Drill instructors also told me that the red stripe on the side of the NCO's and officers pants in dress blues was to represent the loss of officers and NCO's at the battle of Chipolitpec (not sure if I'm spelling that right) when the history books actually say it's because in the 1800's the marine corps was low on money so they bought a bunch of used Army field artillery pants that had a red stripe up the side and I guess they decide they liked them

2019-01-14 08:48:08 UTC

interesting, I would have expected the navy to follow similar uniform habits to the marines especially after they decided to copy our 8 point covers.

2019-01-14 08:49:11 UTC

Alright, well i think i'm going to try to get some sleep. It's almost 4am here.

2019-01-14 08:49:41 UTC

good plan, goodnight brother

2019-01-14 08:50:52 UTC

Good night

2019-01-14 08:50:57 UTC

When did...oh

2019-01-14 08:51:07 UTC

The new navy working uniforms

2019-01-14 08:51:25 UTC

Eveyone hated them

2019-01-14 08:51:31 UTC

ya that stupid blue cammo uniform

2019-01-14 08:51:41 UTC

I got out before switching to those

2019-01-14 08:53:17 UTC

I don't get why they didn't go with a solid blue uniform like the coast guard wears if they wanted a blue uniform, though I've heard the blue ones are seldom worn anymore, instead most guys wear the guacamole green ones now

2019-01-14 08:54:18 UTC

I have no idea, I've been out for a long time now

2019-01-14 08:55:22 UTC

did you wear BDU's on ship then?

2019-01-14 08:57:18 UTC

Coveralls, dungarees and the old working uniforms plus our crackerjacks

2019-01-14 08:57:29 UTC

I was never issued BDUs

2019-01-14 08:58:38 UTC

oh, gotcha. interesting I'm guessing that's where all the old navy blue coveralls our motor pools used when working on vehicles came from then

2019-01-14 08:59:39 UTC

I'd always kinda wondered where those came from since the Marine corps had a hard on for Marpat, everything was always Marpat

2019-01-14 09:00:34 UTC

Probably, coveralls were ideal for ship work, we didnt need the new uniforms. Rumormill says some old master chief retired and started working for the government as a DOD civilian, pushed through the idea that the navy needed these new uniforms and pulled string for the navy to waste money on shit it didnt need or want

2019-01-14 09:01:09 UTC

It's probably true to some extent

2019-01-14 09:02:01 UTC

I'd believe it, atleast it's not as bad as the retarded camo the Army adopted, Issued in massive numbers then realized that it didn't work anywhere so started looking for a replacement

2019-01-14 09:02:50 UTC

there are still units that wear that garbage universal cammo crap

2019-01-14 09:04:04 UTC

Yeah, I think what happens is some desk jockey gets an idea and decides to force the military to adopt some new piece of gear without properly testing it, then the military finds out the hard way its useless

2019-01-14 09:08:37 UTC

actually I did some research way back about the Army's trash cammo and found out that they actually held a huge experiment back in the early 2000's to try to develop a future cammo where they had a number of different manufacturers develop patterns and submit them for testing. after the tests were complete the army found two cammos that worked the best but decided the manufacturer that developed them was asking for too much money so they just took the Marine corps Marpat (which is already just a slightly pallet swaped version of Canadian Cadpat) and did a pallet swap to a grey, green, tan color pallet

2019-01-14 09:09:42 UTC

Paid for by the lowest bidder, sounds about right.

2019-01-14 09:11:27 UTC

absolutely, it's like they never learn. They did the same thing when they developed the M-14 rifle which is arguably a great rifle in specific roles but a garbage rifle for mass issue.

2019-01-14 09:11:50 UTC

I loved the M-14

2019-01-14 09:12:34 UTC

Its better for designated marksman than typical grunts in the squads

2019-01-14 09:14:07 UTC

M-14's are awesome in specific roles but they should never be issued to every guy, it's labor intensive to maintain and heavy. don't get me wrong they make an awesome DMR but most guys don't need to nor are capable of a 1000 yard shot

2019-01-14 09:15:27 UTC

I qualified as a marksman because of that weapon. Its weight is what gave it the stability it enjoyed, but I'm a better shot now and I like the 5.56. However the 7.62 holds a special place in my heart

2019-01-14 09:16:48 UTC

you should try out 6.5 Grendel, I just built one and it's a pretty sweet round if a bit pricy

2019-01-14 09:17:33 UTC

How much on average?

2019-01-14 09:19:09 UTC

lets just say you either have to be rich or a reloader to shoot it on a regular basis. that said I have a an AR-15 with a Dolos quick detach barrel system that I built so I also have a 5.56 barrel for it

2019-01-14 09:19:48 UTC

around $15 to $20 for a box of 20 match grade rounds

2019-01-14 09:20:57 UTC

there's pretty much no mid tier ammo for it but wolf make some shitty steel cased ammo for it though I would never consider feeding that into my precision grade barrel

2019-01-14 09:28:39 UTC

I wouldnt either

2019-01-14 09:30:22 UTC

One thing I've found since going MTGOW though is I have stupid quantities of disposable income so I can afford to splurge on shit like that

2019-01-14 10:43:16 UTC

Nice isnt it? I'm so used to spending money on other people I forgot what it was like to spend money on myself
