```The AIA Archives contain documents dating back to the founding of the Institute in 1879. The documents detail the AIA’s early activities, including excavations in Turkey, Libya, and the American Southwest. The Archives also contain information on the formation of the other institutes by the AIA around the globe, including the American School of Classical Studies at Athens and the School of American Archaeology (now named the School for Advanced Research). In the early 1990s, the Archives were indexed and stored. They contain a treasure trove of unique insights into the individuals and activities of the AIA over more than 130 years.
