I can't think of any project besides guns which I can legally do now

2019-11-10 15:27:27 UTC

Maybe I will design my own guns lmao. Im not even that interested in doing that I just need to find a time consuming project that I actually want made

2019-11-10 15:27:56 UTC

2019-11-10 15:28:13 UTC

America where a legal adult can build a pistol but cant buy ammo for it

2019-11-10 15:29:25 UTC

what kind of things would you want to make that require more organic/freeform modelling @pd ?

2019-11-10 15:29:38 UTC

im pulling up some data rn i can show you

2019-11-10 15:30:06 UTC

ah

2019-11-10 15:32:04 UTC

looks like car panels and such?

2019-11-10 15:32:07 UTC

indeed

2019-11-10 15:32:12 UTC

this is a headliner

2019-11-10 15:32:28 UTC

cool

2019-11-10 15:32:49 UTC

i used to think they did this with surfaces

2019-11-10 15:32:52 UTC

but that's impossible

2019-11-10 15:37:06 UTC

my job is usually to take this and turn it into a tool

2019-11-10 15:37:46 UTC

like this

2019-11-10 15:37:47 UTC

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/371875015018283009/643112061093543937/unknown.png

2019-11-10 15:37:54 UTC

ahh

2019-11-10 15:37:58 UTC

which is harder than it looks

2019-11-10 15:38:05 UTC

so these things get stamped out of a section of plate then?

2019-11-10 15:38:09 UTC

or into

2019-11-10 15:38:30 UTC

Lol i made a replica juul in solidworks

2019-11-10 15:38:35 UTC

it's soft trim so the actual part is made of basically plastic, fiberglass, and a covering material like vinyl or cloth

2019-11-10 15:38:44 UTC

you take sheet material and compress it into a shape

2019-11-10 15:38:53 UTC

then trim

2019-11-10 15:39:36 UTC

how is it compressed into that shape?

2019-11-10 15:40:09 UTC

with a press

2019-11-10 15:40:21 UTC

you make two sides of a mold and put the sheet material in between

2019-11-10 15:40:25 UTC

then squish them together

2019-11-10 15:41:13 UTC

the sheet material being the plastic/fiberglass/vinyl or cloth combination you mentioned?

2019-11-10 15:42:06 UTC

correct

2019-11-10 15:44:01 UTC

2019-11-10 15:44:01 UTC

finished parts look like this

2019-11-10 15:44:33 UTC

interesting, i wouldve thought for fiberglass you would lay it inside the mold, fill it with resin, vacuum suck it and then let it sit till its dry
