it's good to attempt to be conscious and awake at all times but i'm not sure it's actually possible to be that way 100% of the time

you can just be aware of when you're being swayed by emotive arguments and accept them or reject based on knowingly following your instincts

you can conciously develop good instincts

well

i think instinctual thought and action are exactly what emotive arguments leverage

as i see it, we are mostly monkey-brained and lacking conscious thought the majority of the time

We all get swayed, just by different shit

it's somewhat dependent on processing power

What works on me that I struggle with is gun related fear mongering

you hear an argument, you react to it, you react to your reaction, you start to actually think critically

a lot of people get stuck on step two

i think even "smart" people are prone to that as well

i know personally i'm not capable of full-time conscious thought, even when i try to remember to do so

as a lifeform we've spent what, like 3 million years in that mode?
