Not exactly. Humans naturally do the following even if they -act- like they don't.

1. Do people grow up. Yes. 2. Do people HAVE to take care of themselves? Yes.

it hard to "Growing up and taking responsibility for one's self." if the only parental figure behaves like a teen when she is well past that stage and your dad is nowhere to be found
