This kinda reminds me of my Israeli professor (Sephardic Jewish, but now atheist and personally doesn't identify herself as Israeli) who got her B.A. degree in the early 90s and was feeling uncomfortable about the geopolitical mishaps that brought down the Warsaw Pact countries. The folks kept saying the mantra that "democracy will be the final evolution of world politics" right when Israeli politics at that time was turning much more overtly aggressive, contentious, and dangerous, of course, with the point of return being gone forever. Even today, this fascist-leaning mantra exists not just in Israel, but pretty much all Western countries.
I have to say. Many people in liberal democratic countries today are still stuck in the early 90s. It's the 21st century, let's at least have some decency and notice that we live in the 21st century, a very obvious "post-liberal" and "post-representative democratic" century.
