why not a pcm chip tho?'

2017-10-27 08:47:26 UTC

some of the higher end burr browns have really nice specs

2017-10-27 08:47:46 UTC

the pcm has this noise at all times

2017-10-27 08:47:51 UTC

maybe i just got chinked 🤔

2017-10-27 08:47:57 UTC

that's just a shit implimentation

2017-10-27 08:48:29 UTC

if you don't mind not having a housing, i got a SA9023 + ES9023 DAC for like $19 AUD which works nice

2017-10-27 08:48:33 UTC

and has a pretty damn low noise floor

2017-10-27 08:48:56 UTC

slap it in an altoids tin if you care about a housing

2017-10-27 08:49:20 UTC

otherwise there are a few cheap dongle dacs

2017-10-27 08:49:23 UTC

no idea how they perform

2017-10-27 08:49:43 UTC

but sabre chips seem to be pretty easy to impliment other than the whole glare issue

2017-10-27 08:49:52 UTC

but you probably wont hear that unless you have a lot to compare with

2017-10-27 08:50:50 UTC

do i find the SA9023 + ES9023 on ali?

2017-10-27 08:51:15 UTC

dunno if its on there, i got it on ebay

2017-10-27 08:51:18 UTC

lemme look 1 sec

2017-10-27 08:53:17 UTC

price went up a bit

2017-10-27 08:53:21 UTC

but i still like it

2017-10-27 08:53:26 UTC

also has I2S if you ever have USB issues

2017-10-27 08:59:51 UTC

that looks quite nice

2017-10-27 09:00:03 UTC

is pretty decent

2017-10-27 09:00:08 UTC

i dont get hiss even with sensitive IEMs

2017-10-27 09:00:26 UTC

pair it with a CMOY/RA1 and youve got a pretty damn good portable amp/dac

2017-10-27 09:01:27 UTC

if you want something smaller, i have one of those "MUSES" PCM2704 DACs that was kind of okay other than the stupidly oversized housing

2017-10-27 09:03:06 UTC

smaller wouldnt be necessary, but where do i find thid cmoy/ra1 amp and how would i go about installing it?

2017-10-27 09:03:54 UTC

cmoy is an open source extremely simple opamp based portable amp

2017-10-27 09:04:08 UTC

and a grado ra1 is essentially the same with a diff gain strucutre

2017-10-27 09:04:48 UTC

youll only need one if youre using headphones with a lower sensitivity though, or if you really just want a volume knob

2017-10-27 09:06:18 UTC

tho that one doesnt have any protection circuitry so youll want to unplug stuff before turning on/off

2017-10-27 09:06:30 UTC

at least with sensitive transducers

2017-10-27 09:07:50 UTC

but then youd need a ground

2017-10-27 09:08:04 UTC

so either a proper power supply or a virtual ground is needed

2017-10-27 09:09:09 UTC

delving too far for what you seem to want tho

2017-10-27 09:10:18 UTC

also, if youre interested i could try connecting to the Zishan Z1 via i2s since im pretty sure it has support

2017-10-27 09:10:22 UTC

might fix the whole delay issue

2017-10-27 09:15:18 UTC

would probably be nice to get into this sort of stuff eventually

2017-10-27 09:15:41 UTC

and if u could fix audio delay that would really help

2017-10-27 09:15:55 UTC

tbh, dont mess with chifi source gear too much unless its just a clone of some western design

2017-10-27 09:16:02 UTC

too many variables
