How are they not a military operation? They run around in ships that are on par with what the warrior races use. They just have their head up their asses on an organizational level.

Sorry @TheLostHelio I am easily the biggest trekie you have ever met. Each show has its own aspect of dealling with humanity. Each captain has its own way of dealling with conflict. Kirk was punching with solve the problem. Picard was diplomacy first, but he still got involved with the Klingon civil war, the Borg, and even got into tussles with the romunlans abd the cardassians. Sisko was deep entrenched in with the dominion. Janeway had to fight her way through borg space. Archer fought is fair share of fights. Even the newist show starts out with ware braking out.

I was in the US coast guard, one of the now 6 branches of the military. We did aids to navigation, scientific missions, search and rescue, and yes defence.
Starfleet was a military branch. Yes, they focused on silence, but there was major combat training, a specified command heirarchy, and a demanded discipine, like the Navy.
