Yeah but then when it continues you get spiderman making deals with the devil
I quite liked Superior, it was an interesting story
To save his ancient aunt
Spider-man also had an angry convo with God
and you know what happened not long after Brand new day?
one of the best Spider-man runs ever The Gauntlet/Grim Hunt
it took characters like Lizard and Rhino and breathed new life into them, made them a threat
I'm unfamiliar with that one
But was it good because it did that to existing characters or because the story and characters were compelling in general?
both
they took the characters in universe and used them to tell a new story, playing off their history
I'm actually pretty sad they seem to be reverting Rhino back into a mindless villain instead of the flawed relatable character he has been since Gauntlet
Playing off of aspects of it you mean. Since we're dealing with characters who have decades of prior lore now
Much if it likely contradictory
@Beemann to your credit, the entertainment industry as a whole is just to afraid for NEW and won't take risks
can you blame them though?
a risk is not small these days
production costs are insane now
That's because it's easier to pump out more of the same, and maybe sign a good writer every so often
i know
that's why I'm always looking for new indie stuff to support
The real solution, and the one I've pursued, is to look for smaller creators
I read manga. There's way more interesting stuff there than in anime
same thing
i cant deal with the art style and culture
I read some manga but usually it's just when you hit the point in the anime 😄
I think my issue is there doesn't seem to be as much Shonen out these days for my trashy tastes
I like over the top, pulpy kind of stuff, Shonen, Superhero comics, wrestling
I don't especially like Shonen at this point. Too formulaic. There's a few works I really got into for their symbolic value but that's about it
there's an advantage to WWE over Hollywood too the McMahons are big Trump people so you don't get SJW shit so much in WWE
I enjoy either stuff that fucks around with a concept or explores an idea
the women there earn their shit
I like the formulaicness of Shonen sometimes you just want to watch guys punch each other really hard while screaming over loud music
that is exactly why i don't like anime/manga
Like Inuyashiki is about the realities of nigh unlimited power (not unlike Watchmen)
Dungeon Meshi takes your typical dungeon crawl and makes it about cooking and the environment
although it seems a lot of would be mangakas just write light novels now
Vinland Saga goes through its shonen phase and then makes the main character deal with the consequences later
I like Maoyu and Log Horizon for their takes on their respective worlds
is Vinland worth checking out? I was having a look at the season yesterday and noticed that one
I don't know about the anime. It's still at the slow bit
The manga is great
