2019-07-30 21:15:07 UTC

ive got almost 500 games on steam

2019-07-30 21:15:15 UTC

that's something I don't get you can not like a particular practice Epic are doing but some are outright advocating for a steam monopoly

2019-07-30 21:15:23 UTC

I dont play games as long as I used to so I feel bad if I pay full price for them

2019-07-30 21:15:32 UTC

maybe it's the PC master race type

2019-07-30 21:15:36 UTC

yea i think thats stange too @Lord Zedd

2019-07-30 21:15:44 UTC

I've never understood that mindset, I go where the games are

2019-07-30 21:15:46 UTC

advocating for a monopoly.

2019-07-30 21:16:12 UTC

has steam ever been as heavy handed as epic though

2019-07-30 21:16:39 UTC

I like competition but maybe epic isnt the right one

2019-07-30 21:16:39 UTC

heavy handed with what tho? exclusives?

2019-07-30 21:16:59 UTC

thats all ive heard ppl complain about

2019-07-30 21:17:15 UTC

steam has exclusives

2019-07-30 21:17:22 UTC

oh and i guess there was some sort of data mining thingtoo

2019-07-30 21:17:35 UTC

which idk much about

2019-07-30 21:17:45 UTC

they bought exclusive rights for games after the crowdfunding for these games promised the games on all platforms

2019-07-30 21:18:07 UTC

that's on the original companies for selling out their backers

2019-07-30 21:18:19 UTC

and in at least one case they didnt even refund people last time I checked

2019-07-30 21:18:23 UTC

eh, im not really bothered by that.

2019-07-30 21:18:27 UTC

why would they refund?

2019-07-30 21:18:37 UTC

the biggest concern for me is their connection to tencent

2019-07-30 21:18:37 UTC

the game got made, even if it is missing one thing

2019-07-30 21:18:45 UTC

no game has everything promised

2019-07-30 21:18:52 UTC

sadly that's the reality of gaming these days everyone has a foot in china

2019-07-30 21:19:18 UTC

because its fraud to take someones money under false pretenses than almost finish the game and then sell it to epic

2019-07-30 21:19:44 UTC

i doubt thats actually fraud

2019-07-30 21:19:46 UTC

what false pretences?
the game got made

2019-07-30 21:20:01 UTC

if so, then EVERY game dev is guilty of fraud

2019-07-30 21:20:06 UTC

for over promising

2019-07-30 21:20:08 UTC

and hyping

2019-07-30 21:20:09 UTC

unless they explicitly said this game is on steam

2019-07-30 21:21:45 UTC

I get some people arent bothered by it but I personally dont want to use ten different stores for my games, so if someone gave a significant amount to a game developer I get why they would be pissed. If the thing doesnt matter to begin with, they shouldnt promise the game on all platforms when they crowdfund

2019-07-30 21:21:49 UTC

and arent crowd funding objectives goals rather than actual promises?

2019-07-30 21:22:09 UTC

crowd sourcing is a sucker's game though, if you're going to put up real money at least do it as an investor so you have an actual say and can get potential return

2019-07-30 21:22:54 UTC

if having 10 different stores means i get the best product and price, then so be it

2019-07-30 21:23:03 UTC

i will never advocate for a monopoly

2019-07-30 21:23:08 UTC

yeah more competition the better

2019-07-30 21:25:01 UTC

depends on the promise travis, sure they might not get everything done as they want, but when they say which platforms the game will be able to be bought from or what kind of game its going to be (fps, strategy, etc.) you should tell the truth as a developer

2019-07-30 21:26:03 UTC

you cant guarantee distribution tho, and thats what that is

2019-07-30 21:26:26 UTC

you cant take money for a strategy game, make an fps game and then say:"well crowdfunding goals are kinda open to interpretation"

2019-07-30 21:26:31 UTC

each platform will have various terms and negotiations.
