FOX did a man on the street thing in her district a while back, they are all die hards like her

so they dont like rich people. If they knew she is 100% funded by someone wealthy they might not be as enthusiastic about her

and no one thinks she's independent, she never even pretended to be

of course her voters think she is less controlled by some wealthy backers than other members of congress

also with a no pay politician system there's another drawback

you'd have them going into the field just to raise their profile

then leave after their term and get a cushy TV job

you can say something like no more work in the private sector after being a politician

all you have to do is get paid enough by outside interests to sustain yourself for the term then cash out for a big TV contract or CEO job at Boeing etc

also they are doing that in the moment and they would also do that with higher pay

so you're just adding more stipulations to it?

they'd be getting paid comparable rates in the public sector

all of a sudden there's incentive to stay in the public sector, competition to find the best at the job

and not just the people not good enough to hack it in the private sector

you get the most corrupt politicians if you get people who only get into it for the money. They have no ideology or moral code that they arent willing to sell

that's fine as long as they bring results

it's not about them it's about the country

the result is to get reelected not good governance

if their greed gets in the way of their job performance they're gone and replaced with someone better

basically a country hiring for the best available instead of settling for scraps from the private sector

if you want people who care more about the country than getting reelected it seems to me not paying them and seeing who still steps forward is a good way for that

and as long as they show results they'll get reelected, all of a sudden their concern shifts from keeping power to providing results

they'll be making bank for themselves in the private sector

instead you'll get only people who want to push for their own agendas seeking out those roles

you talk about bribes and stuff, but if you have no idea on which comitees you will sit and which bribes will be offered to you you wouldnt go into it planning to make money. You would need to spend a lot of money. Who do you think would be willing to do that.

After they made bank in the private sector and retire they run for office

they know which ones they're going for

so you get a bunch of washed up hasbeens running your country?

and you assume they won't just retire on an island somewhere?

you're just limiting the pool of talent

why are people who were on top of the private sector a few months ago has beens?
