but, if you don't get a clearance, they don't go, "WELP, enjoy the job"

2020-01-22 23:38:54 UTC

Oh, I didn't know you meant you had a security clearance from being in the military.

2020-01-22 23:39:10 UTC

Really we need to loosen up regulations on security clearances so the free market can do it's job..

2020-01-22 23:39:37 UTC

It creates a monopoly because it's a burdensome cost of entry

2020-01-22 23:40:00 UTC

@wolfman1911
That was one of them.

2020-01-22 23:42:06 UTC

The two people I know that have or are getting security clearance work for defense contractors, so apparently the story goes that the clearance comes something like a year or so after getting hired.

2020-01-22 23:42:31 UTC
2020-01-22 23:42:33 UTC

No.

2020-01-22 23:42:35 UTC

Lol.

2020-01-22 23:42:41 UTC

Fucking no.

2020-01-22 23:42:49 UTC

🤣

2020-01-22 23:43:14 UTC

To quote a downie...
> but, if you don't get a clearance, they don't go, "WELP, enjoy the job"

2020-01-22 23:43:30 UTC

Well no shit

2020-01-22 23:44:07 UTC

You think they get paid to not work for a year...?

2020-01-22 23:44:08 UTC

I never said that you don't lose the job if you fail to get the clearance.

2020-01-22 23:45:31 UTC

You're not getting the job with the clearance

2020-01-22 23:45:36 UTC

you're working in some other position

2020-01-22 23:45:37 UTC

Do you think defense contractors don't have things they can have employees do that waiting for a clearance?

2020-01-22 23:45:49 UTC

Depends

2020-01-22 23:46:03 UTC

they'll pay you to sit in a box to do nothing so they can write it down as part of their budget

2020-01-22 23:46:06 UTC

so I'd suppose so

2020-01-22 23:47:04 UTC

and depends on if their job is actually security related, or if they just need to security clearance to work on some project

2020-01-22 23:47:25 UTC

Sec contractors are the biggest pieces of shit, but in general, anything that gets sucking on the gubmint teat is a huge pile of wasteful shit

2020-01-22 23:48:11 UTC

They are both computer science majors working for defense contractors, so I suspect there is a fair mix of things they could be doing in the mean time.

2020-01-22 23:48:33 UTC

depends

2020-01-22 23:48:52 UTC

Well, not really computer science major anymore since they graduated, but I just got used to using that phrase.

2020-01-22 23:48:57 UTC

That's already leaning towards waste

2020-01-22 23:49:32 UTC

Those are the types of companies that will hire you to sit in a box and do nothing while you get your clearance

2020-01-22 23:50:14 UTC

Especially since there are rules, depending on what they're doing for the number of people with security clearances they must have in order to stay in good standing

2020-01-22 23:51:18 UTC

CS doesn't mean sec, but it probably does.

2020-01-22 23:51:20 UTC
2020-01-22 23:51:38 UTC

They hire real engineers for the other contractors

2020-01-22 23:51:44 UTC

not "Computer Scientists"

2020-01-22 23:51:54 UTC

and the people doing cryptography tend to be real mathematicians

2020-01-22 23:51:59 UTC

Nigger... do you understand how interconnected Govie networks are?

2020-01-22 23:52:06 UTC

not, _"Computer Scientists"_

2020-01-22 23:52:40 UTC

If you're logging into a box with classified data, you need the appropriate clearance

2020-01-22 23:53:12 UTC

>and the people doing cryptography tend to be real mathematicians

2020-01-22 23:53:42 UTC

They're not working at Boeing in all likelihood

2020-01-22 23:53:51 UTC

Some parasite security contractor probably
