We actually had a case here where a teen killed his father. Stabbed him like 47 times. Turns out he had been abused for years and was on a hair trigger. Snapped and yeeted the dude. They gave him psych eval and set him free basically

ah jeeze, down here that would be second degree murder

and maybe some discounting on sentencing

y'all also have that dude who cut another dudes head off and ate him who got released a few years back

One of those cases where the law just doesn't fit. Kid wasn't a danger to anyone, just needed to be out of that house

only spent a few years in a mental hospital for it

now hes in college

Yeah, that's probably because we don't have proper mental health care anyway

Might also genuinely be that he's on the proper meds now

If he's been honestly evaluated as a non threat, is on his meds, and stays on that shit, s'all good

or go through some financial issues and cant afford them

i know rehabilitation is a good thing generally, but with murder idk

yea he was having day trips pretty early

As far as meds go I'm not sure if they're subsidized or covered in that instance

it was basically like going away to summer camp lol

yea essentially im not convicned that hes fully rehabilitated

if meds are the one thing that separates him from going postal

Well the way that not criminally responsible and psych eval/rehab work is that it all depends on rate of recovery

if it was a different crime, then i could be persuaded

prove temporary insanity and only get 6 years instead of life in prison. america doesnt take too kindly to that

Well it's actually probably a matter of confirmation bias

They did an experiment once where they had perfectly healthy people pretend to be mentally ill for a week, enter a mental hospital at the start of said week and then go back to normal behaviour after it

And the staff were recording their normal behaviour as symptomatic
