No better way I can think of to publically announce that you are not a serious person, and thus shouldn't be taken seriously.

His entire argument was basically: "well I'm not an expert but we should give hormone treatment to children, because my trans friends say they wish they had. What? People regret it? Well I'm sure they exist, but in my experience that is irrelevant because my trans friends say..."

How about this. If you're not an expert on the matter, don't advocate for hormone treatment and life altering surgery for fucking children just because your biased friends say it should be so.

There are certainly more and less knowledgeable people, it's just that it doesn't seem to have any bearing on their influence

we're still learning stuff, some of the health impacts are still coming forward
I think doctors rushed too fast to make the surgery and hormones pretty routine before anyone really had much of a grasp of it all

Well I don't think that in and of itself is the issue. It's not necessarily the wrong decision in all cases, nor is it the worst stopgap

The problem exists when the surgery and hormones become attached to an identity, and thus any alternative becomes an attack on that identity

and the fact they're talking now about 7 year olds getting hormones, that is fucked up beyond words

Oh for sure. Especially when you consider the number of conflicting theories and studies floating around at the moment

then you've got to think, if there's a time limit for the effectiveness of the hormones, maybe that means the hormones aren't the answer
