Don't bull shit him with that. Xeons are just as capable as their consumer counterparts.

2017-01-12 15:47:22 UTC

i wasn't

2017-01-12 15:47:34 UTC

i mean, you're right

2017-01-12 15:47:50 UTC

just gotta be careful and stuff

2017-01-12 15:48:31 UTC

The only standing argument of not using a xeon is cost. But when you go with older tech, the xeons are usually cheaper.

2017-01-12 15:48:43 UTC

yeah

2017-01-12 15:49:15 UTC

Is it actually good to buy CPUs from China?

2017-01-12 15:49:18 UTC

well

2017-01-12 15:49:25 UTC

idk

2017-01-12 15:49:43 UTC

probably not

2017-01-12 15:49:53 UTC

Ebay

2017-01-12 15:49:54 UTC

i imagine its very easy to send cheap ones instead

2017-01-12 15:50:05 UTC

hi wrywry

2017-01-12 15:50:10 UTC

ebay is generally the best place for that kind of shit

2017-01-12 15:50:13 UTC

I got an lga 2011 ES from Japan. Only to find out it wasn't overclockable, now it sits in a box doing nothing after I got my hands on a cheap 1650 v2.

2017-01-12 15:50:18 UTC

hey ;)

2017-01-12 15:50:24 UTC

@Azure.EXE I've thought about the LGA771 mod. I was thinking of getting Xeon x5460 or Q6600

2017-01-12 15:50:37 UTC

hmm

2017-01-12 15:51:01 UTC

@Azure.EXE also my mobo is some random south american brand. Literally no bios update after 2009

2017-01-12 15:51:11 UTC

so im concerned

2017-01-12 15:51:19 UTC

I had a friend that did the mod, said it was really easy. He uses it as a file server. Actually, he said he uses it more now as a daily driver than his main machine which is used almost solely for gaming now.

2017-01-12 15:51:23 UTC

looking at cpuboss, they're both on par with each other, it seems

2017-01-12 15:52:00 UTC

Ebay xeon is 2x q6600 in price

2017-01-12 15:52:07 UTC

i'm not an expert with pc hardware, so

2017-01-12 15:52:14 UTC

yeah lol

2017-01-12 15:52:17 UTC

I'm just afraid I get either CPU and then its not compatible

2017-01-12 15:52:22 UTC

Then just get the q 6600 or better.

2017-01-12 15:52:39 UTC

Look up the motherboards compatibility list.

2017-01-12 15:53:28 UTC

I dont know where to look

2017-01-12 15:53:33 UTC

I have a ipm41-d3 mobo

2017-01-12 15:53:43 UTC

Might take some digging, but if it got a bios update in 2009 it shouldn't have an issue supporting a quad core.

2017-01-12 15:54:11 UTC

Just put that + "cpu support" into Google.

2017-01-12 15:54:46 UTC

Then you should be fine.

2017-01-12 15:55:01 UTC

but they're just randoms

2017-01-12 15:55:52 UTC
2017-01-12 15:56:04 UTC

Hardware forums are more trustworthy than 4chan, bud. Just search the model number + cpu support and see if you can find anything more official if you're skeptical.

2017-01-12 15:56:06 UTC

that feel when my mobo can only support 4gb ddr3 ram max

2017-01-12 15:56:33 UTC

now the question remains, x5460 or q6600

2017-01-12 15:56:40 UTC

What? Isn't the core 2 arch 64bit?

2017-01-12 15:57:09 UTC

no its the mobo
