Duty

2019-11-21 16:23:59 UTC

VA is for the vets

2019-11-21 16:25:01 UTC

TRICARE covers reserves too. Ok looks like Im misinformed. Its $52B which is 10% of the entire defense budget. According to mercatus center

2019-11-21 16:25:23 UTC

Im not sure where I heard 1/3-1/2. Maybe it was calculated differently

2019-11-21 16:25:49 UTC

Including the VA or some other commitments to perssonel

2019-11-21 16:26:02 UTC

Well that could include all health care

2019-11-21 16:26:07 UTC

Which sounds reasonable.

2019-11-21 16:26:19 UTC

Plus I dont know if 52B include staff costs or just the base med costs.

2019-11-21 16:26:33 UTC

But I know for a fact it is growing and alarming the planners at DoD

2019-11-21 16:27:13 UTC

"planners at DoD"

2019-11-21 16:27:26 UTC

my faith in that .... zero

2019-11-21 16:27:52 UTC

No faith that DoD plans things out?

2019-11-21 16:28:48 UTC

Or you think I am some bullshit artist?

2019-11-21 16:29:08 UTC

No faith in their budgeting ability

2019-11-21 16:29:11 UTC

mainly

2019-11-21 16:30:28 UTC

I am worried no matter who wins politically, our country is headed over the edge in 10-20 years financially no matter what happens.

2019-11-21 16:30:44 UTC

Good thing we don't have any manufacturing anymore to weigh us down.

2019-11-21 16:31:12 UTC

We bring the whole world with us at least

2019-11-21 16:31:44 UTC

Yes the budgeting ability is a disaster

2019-11-21 16:32:11 UTC

I’m rather alarmed myself. Even Trump isn’t doing much to curtail spending

2019-11-21 16:32:41 UTC

he saved a billion from Boeing, but I think that's about all 😂

2019-11-21 16:32:41 UTC

No one seems to be able to

2019-11-21 16:32:43 UTC

10 might be high, 5 is also totally possible.

2019-11-21 16:33:23 UTC

Well japan has a debt to gdp ratio twice ours and they are still going strong

2019-11-21 16:33:36 UTC

Yeah well

2019-11-21 16:33:36 UTC

So they are a pretty good canary in teh coal mine

2019-11-21 16:33:48 UTC

Japan is the only country worse then us and they're in an unusual spot.

2019-11-21 16:33:57 UTC

When no one loans them any more money well know how much time weve got

2019-11-21 16:34:01 UTC

Hahaha.

2019-11-21 16:34:33 UTC

I'd have to look into it more, the question is how does Japan set up its public services, debt, foreign exposure, ect.

2019-11-21 16:34:53 UTC

Maybe they're putting all their debt public vs us who have hidden it more in retirement areas.

2019-11-21 16:35:08 UTC

Social Security and Healthcare.

2019-11-21 16:35:36 UTC

are what cause it for us

2019-11-21 16:40:48 UTC

Our SS system is technically never in debt. It's always got more assets than liabilities. However, those assets are government bonds. So our government's debt is mainly debt to itself. Or another way an IOU of our trust fund.

2019-11-21 16:41:42 UTC

2019-11-21 16:41:58 UTC

Cali has cities that are billions in the red and will come due in the next decade.

2019-11-21 16:42:11 UTC

2019-11-21 16:42:32 UTC

2019-11-21 16:42:41 UTC
