Each country really has its stereotypes about perceived snobbishness and redneck-ishness of certain areas and accents incomprehensible to outsiders.

We have a fairly neutral accent

though some hoosiers have very thick accents

I switch back and forth depending on where I am and who I'm around

I moved around a lot so I never developed particulary strong local accent.

I only picked up on an accent from living around rednecks and hillbillys

my parents had slight accents

especially my mom when she got mad

also, northern indiana east chicago in particular is heavily industrialized

actually we have a lot of dilapidated rust belt towns in Northern and Eastern indiana

it's actually very depressing

especially Madison county

and then New Castle has a couple plants open

one of them polluted the drinking supply of that town

caused like 18 infants to get some weird brain cancer

and its a mostly white town

The stereotype here is that the east coast are the total hillbillies and south coast is progressive liberal snobs and hippies.
