do you need a decomp needle with vented chest seals?
Yes. We've seen them clog with clot. SOP is needle for any chest wound that could penetrate the plural space.
TCCC says to burp the seal and reassess, but ain't nobody got time for that. If they have a sucking chest wound, it's going to turn into a tension pneumothorax by the time you're clear of enemy fire. Seal the entry and exit, needle at the 2nd ICS midclavicular line.
TCCC is a guideline, not a protocol. Units can and do augment it. It's the bare minimum skill set for a medic or CLS.
You can't do any more damage with a 14 gauge needle than the bullet or shrapnel did anyway.

Buy them vacuum sealed, or if you make your own, vacuum seal them yourself.
God damn I love my vacuum sealer. So much clothing has been jammed in so many way too small bags thanks to it.
