Dead air qd

2020-01-06 22:58:45 UTC

I'm putting in for an sbr this week so I thought about doing the can at the same time, but I haven't really planned it out yet

2020-01-06 23:40:38 UTC

You should just so you can buy a .300 memeout upper in the future

2020-01-06 23:40:54 UTC

especially if there's no significant durability or performance downside

2020-01-06 23:41:01 UTC

but it's got to be heavier at the very least, right?

2020-01-06 23:41:49 UTC

I'm thinking it's the prudent thing. I'm already locked into a diameter based on the QD I have so it won't get much heavier if at all

2020-01-06 23:42:51 UTC

Why would you even consider a .223 can then?

2020-01-06 23:43:04 UTC

I fail to see why there's any consideration if it's as black and white as you're making it out to be

2020-01-06 23:46:20 UTC

Some people chase decibel numbers, and there is a performance difference. I don't get hung up on it since 223 cans aren't intended to be Hollywood quiet. I have 5 223 guns and none 300/308 so I have to decide if I want that last bit of performance

2020-01-06 23:47:00 UTC

Or plan to use it down the road on memeout or someone elses guns etc. I think I'll make it 30

2020-01-06 23:50:19 UTC

Also I have a dedicated 9x39 can already so blackout is kinda eh to me

2020-01-06 23:52:13 UTC

nigger what

2020-01-06 23:52:17 UTC

post that shit

2020-01-06 23:53:28 UTC

It's unfinished because there's no ar mags yet

2020-01-06 23:54:32 UTC

what is it? An AR?

2020-01-06 23:55:07 UTC

9x39 is fucking dumb

2020-01-06 23:55:34 UTC

Yeah but slavshit is aesthetic

2020-01-06 23:55:37 UTC

all slavshit is dumb

2020-01-06 23:56:07 UTC

It's integral but I haven't mated it to the upper yet

2020-01-06 23:56:14 UTC

damn do you work at Q

2020-01-06 23:56:43 UTC

No I use too much shielding gas

2020-01-07 00:22:02 UTC

hey if it verks it verks

2020-01-07 00:24:24 UTC

titanium isn't even hard to get right, but if you get it wrong its as brittle as glass

2020-01-07 00:24:52 UTC

that blue spot? perfectly fine. a salmon color or gritty grey? you can hear it crack

2020-01-07 00:25:24 UTC

do you hand weld these or do you have them on a machine?

2020-01-07 00:25:55 UTC

by hand. i put them on a mandrel with gas flowing to the inside, and then rotated it with one hand and welded with the other

2020-01-07 00:26:16 UTC

next time i'm leaving a tiny lip on each baffle so i dont need to add filler, that'll make the welds more uniform

2020-01-07 00:26:45 UTC

it would be piss easy for Q to make good welds, but they dont want to stop when they outrun their gas coverage and want to keep burning along

2020-01-07 00:27:09 UTC

word. I saw a machine some guy had made to do welded tubes, it was fucking cool, push button and a weld was done

2020-01-07 00:28:32 UTC

people waffle about robot tig because it generally needs closed loop control, but i think if you fine tuned your settings and controlled your gaps and material and etc you could make repeatable perfect welds without a million dollar robot

2020-01-07 00:30:28 UTC

I have to imagine its one of those things where eventually 3d printers are going to make a welded can obsolete sooner or later, though

2020-01-07 00:31:33 UTC

maybe on the industrial side. but how fast will the machines proliferate?

2020-01-07 00:31:50 UTC

i've never seen one in person but i know of some places that use them

2020-01-07 00:38:34 UTC

I mean, I got a plastic one. ten years ago it would have cost like 3000 dollars for it. as long as there is some sort of hobbyist or light industry demand for it, it will get cheaper and cheaper

2020-01-07 00:39:39 UTC

theres a power gap between hobby and industrial lasers. the middle ground would have to grow

2020-01-07 00:40:02 UTC

i guess if people were ok with running the same speed as a hobby 3d printer you could make headway with hobby level equipment

2020-01-07 00:45:21 UTC

anyone know about how much a set of pvs14 tubes run

2020-01-07 00:46:01 UTC

two of them

2020-01-07 00:46:04 UTC

800-5000

2020-01-07 00:46:30 UTC

cool thanks

2020-01-07 00:46:47 UTC

Thats so broad
