How do you know this shit man?

2018-04-18 20:52:10 UTC

I try to teach myself everything about or beautiful land and culture

2018-04-18 20:52:22 UTC

It's so fragile nowadays

2018-04-18 20:52:33 UTC

It’s certainly in danger, yeah.

2018-04-18 20:52:38 UTC

The growth of internationalism is strong you see

2018-04-18 20:52:43 UTC

**thanks Merkel**

2018-04-18 20:52:53 UTC

Goddamn it angelca

2018-04-18 20:53:32 UTC

Weren't we discussing place names?

2018-04-18 20:53:41 UTC

Yep.

2018-04-18 20:54:11 UTC

Germany has lots of -tz at the end

2018-04-18 20:54:23 UTC

Which is sorta the slavic suffix for places

2018-04-18 20:54:29 UTC

Man, feels weird thinking about living in the Balkans and not being able to travel 300 miles without having to use another language.

2018-04-18 20:54:47 UTC

Well

2018-04-18 20:54:57 UTC

I mean look at the slovene nations

2018-04-18 20:55:14 UTC

5 kms away a whole diffrent dialect with sepperate literature

2018-04-18 20:55:45 UTC

The best comparisment you have for the slovenes is fucking what dutch is from bavarian

2018-04-18 20:55:48 UTC

Especially coming from someone living far-inland in the US with no language barriers at all.

2018-04-18 20:55:50 UTC

Like only 4 dialects apart

2018-04-18 20:56:17 UTC

Well yeah

2018-04-18 20:56:23 UTC

Sorta happens to elder languages

2018-04-18 20:57:19 UTC

Well, your languages come from a time where travel wasn’t an efficient thing, so therefore the area which a language would be used in would be way smaller.

2018-04-18 20:57:42 UTC

But american pioneers had it hard too?

2018-04-18 20:57:53 UTC

Not nearly as much, really.

2018-04-18 20:58:01 UTC

if you say so

2018-04-18 20:58:27 UTC

There were no barriers in the original 13 Colonies because everyone was British or a slave who learned English.

2018-04-18 20:58:28 UTC

I mean I can't understand floridese and bostonese if they talk too fast

2018-04-18 20:59:16 UTC

The closes things to barriers we have are accents, but accents are accents so they don’t defer from ordinary English all that much.

2018-04-18 21:00:10 UTC

Goddamn it english

2018-04-18 21:00:18 UTC

In the Southeast there’s a lot of apostrophes not used anywhere else, like “y’all”.

2018-04-18 21:00:24 UTC

You're the most widely spoken language but so little dialects

2018-04-18 21:00:54 UTC

The only true dialects are from the isles

2018-04-18 21:01:14 UTC

We all know the Southern redneck stereotypes, so I don’t need to go much more into that.

2018-04-18 21:01:18 UTC

Welsh english, scottish english, irish english

2018-04-18 21:01:26 UTC

Well yeah

2018-04-18 21:01:30 UTC

I always say

2018-04-18 21:01:41 UTC

Hard working people have little time to talk

2018-04-18 21:01:52 UTC

So they shorten their speech

2018-04-18 21:01:55 UTC

Same here

2018-04-18 21:02:22 UTC

from "ali boš" into "al boš" or even worse! "auš"

2018-04-18 21:02:34 UTC

you see from two words into one formation

2018-04-18 21:02:47 UTC

I’m from Kentucky myself, a place smashed inbetween the North and the South. It has a bit of an identity crisis.
