the guy says, that GDP grew nicely until 2008 then it crashed, and that this is a problem with GDP because it doesn't show you the signs beforehand
but thats the point! it's not a metric that is supposed to predict!
it's supposed to show you what's happening in the given moment
weak economic activity is the symptom of economic crisis not its cause
GDP itself is fine, the problem is that people for some reason think you can accurately apply it everywhere and to everything
then it well, obviously fails, because its supposed to show you 1 concrete thing so no wonder, but then those people yell that its a bad indicator
it's like taking a table with countries population, then complaining it fails to tell you anything about the countries wealth, and blaming the very metric instead of its use
They are used in the wrong context by people like you all the time
