in the spectrum of non-democratic to democratic, direct democracy is by definition closer to the right end (democracy) compared to representative democracy

and the reason why this had to be specified is because if you are against direct democracy, you are virtually against democratic values themselves, or rather, democratic values in their whole picture, and would rather "cherry-pick them" to something better resembling the representative democracies you are more accustomed to. To have a preference for the latter over the former is by principle opposing "more democracy" or just "democracy".
And that is why I made the sarcastic remark that you, as an eurocrat, being against democracy, doesn't surprise me

There is no "pure" form of democracy, there are 5 types of it
1) Where everyone is equal, regardless of wealth
2) The one where individuals can hold public office but must meet certain requirements
3) The one where only the nobles can hold public office
4) The one where literally anyone can hold public office but the law is sovereign
5) The one where also literally anyone can hold public office and the public is sovereign, not the law (makes way for populist leaders to influence the public and take whatever decision they want without repercussions)

Direct democracy fits more into the 5th type
