This was because Southern women loved having kids and loved sex

In the North following the war, especially in New England, the women responded to the war by simply becoming spinsters

Cleaner, better farmland, prettier

thus the traditional Yankee population declined

and was largely replaced by Irish Catholics, French Canadian Catholics and others

Yeah not many WASPs left

Yankee Population growth had been declining since the early 1800's when many farm families sent their daughters to work in factories instead of getting married
