like "oh, I might be forced to uphold these abusive laws. But I can at least make sure that they're enforced safely and ethically as best I can"

my city is basically controlled by the university here

I interned with my local SO, and I couldn't find too much wrong with how they did things. And the Sheriff is actually trying to rehabilitate the inmates, not just punish them
