Oy, Luther was a good man.

2019-12-09 03:01:46 UTC

oh wait Marx was german?

2019-12-09 03:01:54 UTC

the funny thing is that you could argue that hitler was an expression of the zeitgeist at the time

2019-12-09 03:02:09 UTC

merkel just a crazy bitch

2019-12-09 03:02:30 UTC

One could make the same argument about Merkel.

2019-12-09 03:02:47 UTC

waaaaay more oligarchic now id argue

2019-12-09 03:04:41 UTC

I just had a real bad derp moment.

Ralin joined the chat and I thought to myself, oh his profile picture really stands out now. And then it dawned on me the text chat and the channel name tab are different colors

2019-12-09 03:06:07 UTC

@Al Capwned that's why I want transparency

2019-12-09 03:06:19 UTC

Personally wished Rome stayed together. If it broke apart slowly rather it fracture so suddenly then by what the barbarians did to it

2019-12-09 03:06:25 UTC

^

2019-12-09 03:06:42 UTC

If Germans didn't destroy Rome, we'd be interstellar species by now...

2019-12-09 03:06:47 UTC

Thanks a lot germany

2019-12-09 03:06:58 UTC

I wouldn't say that

2019-12-09 03:07:29 UTC

But rather have Rome then the decadent mess it became afterwards

2019-12-09 03:07:48 UTC

by the migratory hordes that supplanted the republic and Empire

2019-12-09 03:08:18 UTC

GQ > JQ tbh

2019-12-09 03:08:30 UTC

to be fair tho Rome was suffering more from the inside then anything else

2019-12-09 03:08:41 UTC

it got too big

2019-12-09 03:08:54 UTC

Imagine having to save rome from itself by sieging it

2019-12-09 03:08:57 UTC

Feelsbadman

2019-12-09 03:09:32 UTC

Rome's internal struggles are teh reason it collapsed

2019-12-09 03:09:36 UTC

If Rome stayed like Italy North, Africa, Spain region then it prob wouldn't have ended up where it went

2019-12-09 03:09:37 UTC

It's a lesson for all empires

2019-12-09 03:09:55 UTC

The enemy within is often, not always, what destroys you

2019-12-09 03:10:13 UTC

having it at the scale where you literally had to split the empire in 2 shows it is just way too big of a project to manage

2019-12-09 03:10:42 UTC

comms tech fixes that issue to a degree

2019-12-09 03:10:48 UTC

more efficiency and cultural flow

2019-12-09 03:10:51 UTC

Once Caesar made Gauls Citzens of Rome and became a dictator Rome was lost in all honesty

2019-12-09 03:11:15 UTC

To give them credit, what they managed to accomplish in that era was a remarkable achievement, especially to hold out for as long as they did, and I'm not even including the Byzantine era (which I do still consider to be roman...)

2019-12-09 03:11:41 UTC

All that land under one banner

2019-12-09 03:12:18 UTC

idk all empires come to an end eventually but god what a tragedy to see it erode away by migratory hordes and just the internal politics fucking it up

2019-12-09 03:12:55 UTC

good thing that will never happen again <:npc:502497359419408384>

2019-12-09 03:13:07 UTC

I mean, I can only look at it from the perspective of a modern man with all the technology we have. Even with our technology, I don't think anyone could conquer so much land with so many different people/cultures and have it unified.

2019-12-09 03:13:24 UTC

nah this time.... this time... we're all just so damn enlightened

2019-12-09 03:13:27 UTC

And then hold onto it for more than a century
