I'd rather use large sums of money to directly change things, i.e personally help poorer people get a good suit, proper transporation etc and use muh connections to help them get a leg up

IDK what it's like where you live, but having a good suit basically doesn't matter at all in job interviews where I'm from and I don't see why it would anywhere these days. Considering that, even if it does matter a little more where you're from, the benefit of the suit isn't large enough to justify spending money on that for them rather than helping them pay the bills.
