it gained the momentum it did underground because people needed to go underground with their raves in order to have them at the scale they wanted. but the demand for the supply is always effected by environmental variables right and one of the biggest influences on the culture at the time was second world war and the cold war. basically tldr; the rave scene only prospers underground when its close to war. and prospers above ground in a more corperate manner when people are more or less content with their environment. for better or for worse. you can always tell a war is coming from a cultural standpoint when the kids decide the establishment doesnt allow them enough room to escape
