The reason we are in debt is because we are tying to make futuristic shit when things like the A-10 work just fine they just need tech updates
A-10 is not sufficient for stealth fighter needs, its for close-combat with ground forces
you dont even come close to knowing what you are talking about
But the A-10 needs little runway for take off and landing it can fly with one engine and wing gone it can destroy everything
And we are mothballing it
because we dont need a small plane to perform close combat ground fights anymore
We do though
and the a-10 doesnt have missile countermeasures
If we have one multipurpose shit fighter and it fails then what
That's why we have joint combat forces because an all purpose thing doesn't work
well thats why i feel the f35 is a failure, as is the f22
f18 and f16 were much better

We need planes like these but the military decides to mothball them
the a-10 is still worthless though
The reason the A-10 was so successful is because it's a CAS airplane that is essentially invincible
no need to gatling treelines anymore
we dont need CAS of that type anymore

also, the retrofitting and maintenance costs...holy hell
they only brought them back for a bit in recent times because they were just lying around
