Sorry this is ignorant, but how do you tell the difference between someone who doesn't have autism and someone who has it moderately high functioning?

Well there can be trouble with social interaction.

Also trouble controlling your anger.

Issues understanding other people's perspectives.

Obsessive tendencies with getting very obsessed and focused into one task at the expense of other things.

Some of this can be managed or eliminated with practice. Some really can only be dulled but still will be there

Anger might always be an issue.

Part of why it qualifies for disability

This particular form used to be called aspergers.

But they actually merged that into general autism.

They like to use the fancy term autism spectrum but that's just to differentiate it with low functioning autism. The people who can barely function at all.

I must be high-functioning then, the most anyone has ever insulted me on my social skills before was "You're a bit awkward sometimes"
