I'll say this, Origin sucks in a lot of ways. But the option to install games somewhere else is a lot easier to find and understand than on Steam.

And it's a horribly bad idea, in oh so many ways, to install games in the default directories in either platform.

Windows 8 and up are particularly bratty towards older games, often locking out access to their Program Files folder. Even with run as administrator enabled.

I run like 90% of my games off a usb 3 external hard drive

Sometimes browsing forums looking for people needing help, 9 times out of 10 it's because they just went with the default install directory and Windows wasn't letting the games modify their own files.

Honestly this is a problem both platforms should have thought about and installed somewhere else by default.
