The current global warming hysteria falls under this too. If you examine the followers, you find that they have cult like behavior and they really only believe in it by faith and trust in leaders and not in actual concrete proof. And if you examine they data that they claim proves it, and you actually understand mathematics, physics, computing, and a bit of engineering, you'll realize it's all bullshit and data is being manipulated, and outright fabricated to fit a certain narrative.

What is it?

Read an actual scientific paper published on the subject, and typically what you'll see is an opening that draws a conclusion that it exists. And then a body of data that really does not support that conclusion. And then there will be included graphs that are manipulated to show a certain thing with tricks like altering the range of the graph or the scale, or showing it in another way that exaggerates small changes. And then a conclusion that says the assumptions in the intro were correct. And then references, all of which have the same structure and the same manipulation of graphs. When there is raw data for temperatures, there is almost never a mention of where exactly it was recorded at a specifc location. For instance, if the listing is just at a city, it makes a huge difference if it's outside the city limits versus right in side it. The reality is that we know where they're all recorded. They're recorded in weather stations that 100 years ago were well outside most cities but then cities grew around them and they were never moved. The research papers analyzing this data almost never corrects for the inevitable heat island effect. The ones that do, only subract a flat number based on population which cannot properly reflect a locations urbanized heat island effect.
