because alot of people with bipolar are going to be unstable, and unstable tends to mean some sort of violence erupting from it whether direct or not

2018-03-17 21:45:42 UTC

what?

2018-03-17 21:46:06 UTC

being bipolar doesn't mean you tend to be violent or cause violence

2018-03-17 21:46:15 UTC

i am not sure what you're saying

2018-03-17 21:46:48 UTC

He's saying instability is associated with violence, so people think bipolar people are violent because they're unstable.

2018-03-17 21:47:00 UTC

i concur

2018-03-17 21:49:22 UTC

from all my experience bipolar=manic depression, and instability and outbursts are more prone, without those it should be a different form of depression

2018-03-17 21:52:52 UTC

personally i was exposed to extremes tho in a mental hospital, and the most unstable and violent patients were the ones with bipolar

2018-03-17 21:56:08 UTC

and alot of the times bipolar was treated the same way as people with unstable rage outbursts, and thats just the nature of manic depression, the desensitization of depression and the instability of mania

2018-03-17 22:01:52 UTC

bipolar II exists

2018-03-17 22:01:54 UTC

don't equate bipolar to violence tho

2018-03-17 22:02:06 UTC

bipolar II is depression and hypomania

2018-03-17 22:02:25 UTC

bipolar 2...

2018-03-17 22:02:25 UTC

and mania in bipolar I can be expressed in many different forms. some of them are increased irritation or aggression, others are very high energy and feeling good

2018-03-17 22:02:41 UTC

also if you're in a mental hospital it's probably not a good place to get a read on the average person with a disorder

2018-03-17 22:02:57 UTC

yeah

2018-03-17 22:03:00 UTC

but really

2018-03-17 22:03:03 UTC

bipolar 2

2018-03-17 22:03:20 UTC

not some wierd name for higher levels of instability

2018-03-17 22:03:41 UTC

i don't even know why we're talking about this because this isn't relevant to any of the points I was trying to make

2018-03-17 22:03:43 UTC

unstable - yes, if it's not being treated. violent - no, not a helpful generalization to make

2018-03-17 22:03:55 UTC

h

2018-03-17 22:03:55 UTC

well alot of the patients just go in for a week to test out a new medication to make sure they are safe

2018-03-17 22:04:29 UTC

well im not saying its inherintly violent

2018-03-17 22:04:46 UTC

but violent outbursts would be something that seperate it form generic depression

2018-03-17 22:05:33 UTC

manic depression, highs and lows

2018-03-17 22:08:20 UTC

outbursts are kinda different tho

2018-03-17 22:08:37 UTC

depressed people can have outbursts

2018-03-17 22:08:49 UTC

bipolar is marked more by week + long periods of mood changes

2018-03-17 22:09:14 UTC

violent outbursts aren't something that make it separate from depression bc you can be depressed & have violent outbursts

2018-03-17 22:09:36 UTC

well its gonna be more common in bipolar

2018-03-17 22:10:05 UTC

imo instability of some level is the mark of bipolar

2018-03-17 22:12:40 UTC

its not an opinion piece

2018-03-17 22:12:43 UTC

but ok

2018-03-17 22:13:06 UTC

well if they can both be marked by outbursts of some sort than whats the difference?

2018-03-17 22:14:02 UTC

the lines shouldnt be that blurred

2018-03-17 22:14:20 UTC

long periods of mania and depression, or hypomania and depression

2018-03-17 22:14:56 UTC

these periods are marked by big changes in mood, energy levels, and activity levels, and last from 4 days to months

2018-03-17 22:14:58 UTC

simplified "instability"

2018-03-17 22:16:09 UTC

referring to it as "instability" implies shorter, more sudden changes

2018-03-17 22:16:24 UTC

someone with bipolar may have 2 weeks of mania where they're extremely productive and energetic, but unable to sleep, and then may have 2 months of depression
