One possible scenario is that the SNC-Lavalin investigation turns out extremely badly for Trudeau, but that he refuses to resign. He could face a rebellion from inside the party at that point. If he simply resigns the libs can appoint a new leader and continue governing by giving the NDP whatever free shit they desire.
Both parties need time to lick their wounds and reorganize so they might want to avoid another election so soon.

I think if America gets Alberta and gives them a special healthcare clause that effectively makes it unchanged from what they have, they would have total agreement.
The downside to that is of course, American socialists would see that as an example of socialism working, despite it being on a much smaller scale, it would still be a talking point for them to use.
Economically, it would be good for America, better for Albertans. But it would be worse for the overall political health of America.
I generally think the way forward for certain Canadian provinces is to be annexed, but it's a radical idea. However, provinces that have their own values are essentially states in their own right already. Just look at the Bloc's rise, cultural identity is something that is important to them, therefore they should try to protect that from a government that is seeking to replace them with cheaper labour under the guise of a low population growth.
