Heck, there's even the concept of "forest is my church". Even back when Christianity was mandatory, people accused of not attending Sunday mass were often spared for having a spiritual connection with the soil of the land.

Because compared to Catholicism, Lutheranism is way, way more grass-roots.

And that makes sense, if the forests are the creation of God.

This is probably just limited to Finnish Lutheranism, not so for other countries. We were (and still are) a country of forests, and hard winters that basically reduced us to subsistence farming just to prevent starving.
