My parents never really sheltered me from anything, if anything my older sister would watch horror movies all the time with me around.
my grandma had cable so I got a bit cartoon network. unfortunately I hated dbz for the longest time because I started watching during the absolute worst arc conceivably possible.
my parents tried keeping me off the simpsons but ultimatly it backfired when I got old enough to pretty much be my own man.
Yeah, they did have some clear barriers.. that we flaunted from time to time, as boys are wont to do.
lol the simpsons
dbz part 3million goku sneezes tune in next week to see freiza say bless you.
Did you grow up in a christian household?
Simpsons was on the list until we got to puberty, but that was mostly because my mom went kinda nuts as my dad fell infirm.
lol damn
Eh, the Christian part didn't inform the morals of the matter.
my dad was anti simspons too, there was a small tv in the basement... therefore we practically lived in the basement to watch the simpsons. In the first few seasons there were some raunchy ideas true but as a kid had no idea what it was
Ah i see
yeah. and that's why I despise christianity. but ultimatly the indoctrination never worked. parents never checked my video games.
Simpsons just seems too milk toast.
It was more, "You're not quite old enough to *have* to deal with these things."
and this comes from my mother being legit one of the oldest true gamers (text games back in the 80s)
hmm
Mine were savvy.
And, as said, the presentation was built on trust.
my folks are christian but honestly despite going to church every sunday they eventualy just gave me my mental breathing room.
Which was proved true time and again when we broke that trust.
Eh, fellowship is important.
And church is a vehicle for that connectedness.
But, I'm in no mood to proselytize to closed ears, so..
I'm not really one for church, but irl community events like that are good for mental health.
What was your fav MK char?
and then the fun began. when I was a teen I was hooked after a simpsons marathon (by then my overbearing mom and her side of the family had no way to stop me) and the way the schedual lined up I got 4 episodes a day followed by king of the hill and southpark at night.
Honestly, I think church i good for a lot of kids.
Or alternatively Scouts or something similar.
Which Church?
"Church"
Just church in general. Like the sense of community.
church put me off the religion forever. it works for some people but it would my former faith would have driven me to suicide sooner or later.
(As for why I preferred Sonya - she was kinda hot for a 2d side scrolling character to my 9ish year old self.. *and* my brother was obsessed with Cage's nutshot.)
And there are 3 characters in MK that are immune to it.
How naive
I had similar experiences, catholic school was way too aggressive and pushed me away for not being baptised. But I've met good preachers that focus on community activities, which is deeply needed these days it seems.
