Let me give you an alternative perspective:
I went to arguably the best public school in my state. I had top percentile test scores and a clean behavioral record.
I left highschool and applied to a well-regarded LibArts university in my state. I wasn't given the opportunity for economic aid because I wasn't black, and my opportunities for scholarships were withheld from me because of a (((clerical error))) on the school's part.
I took out a private loan to pay for my schooling. I was quoted the wrong number by the school staff for that loan, unknown to me at the time. I was made to repeat classes that were of lower quality than my highschool classes for that entire year because of the curriculum chosen for me by the school, and then unceremoniously cut from classes because the loan I had taken out in the amount quoted me by the school hadn't been enough.
I wasted an entire year of my life to live uncomfortably and learn nothing at my own expense. None of this was a parenting or behavioral issue, it was entirely a result of a maliciously-run post-secondary education system.
