I however, have mafia affiliated neighbors across the street

half of them did hard time for over half a decade

I grew up with them

prison changed most of them for the better although I had no hopes for that

would have thought the second they come out they would exact revenge on their competition

but they didn't

God help them

it starts young, parents do dodgy shit at work, dodgy off work stuff, the kids think it's ok and want to outmatch their parents

end up getting involved with poaching, extortion, violence, attacks with katanas and other assorted east asian weapons, burglaries, etc

I grew up consuming the exact same media they consumed

their parents were far more harsh with them than my parents ever were with me

I'm not sure if it's some kind of mental illness but it might be

they were far better off than me financially too
