When are the teenagers going to realise? When they are 21?

As long as you work less hours and over time is prohibited?

works in every country

2019-07-29 22:06:36 UTC

if its a sharp full-dollar-mark raise, yes. but just letting wages stagnate behind productivity, GDP, and yes, inflation, isn't a solution either

2019-07-29 22:07:37 UTC

as evidence by the last 40 years. and that's a lenient number

2019-07-29 22:07:57 UTC

I hate to agree on this, but it is what it is.

2019-07-29 22:08:29 UTC

If it's a slow uptick over time it's not unreasonable.

2019-07-29 22:09:01 UTC

Though, when I was on minimum wage it was 6.50/hr.

2019-07-29 22:09:17 UTC

And that was about 15 years ago.

2019-07-29 22:09:56 UTC

and where were you living?

2019-07-29 22:10:12 UTC

Northwest suburbs of Chicago.

2019-07-29 22:10:21 UTC

were you paying rent and or bills?

2019-07-29 22:10:47 UTC

Yes, barely.. and survived mostly off of the free six inch subs & ramen.

2019-07-29 22:11:37 UTC

were you raising some savings or at least emergency funds?

2019-07-29 22:11:54 UTC

Hah! Savings at minimum wage..

2019-07-29 22:12:14 UTC

I think my point has been made

2019-07-29 22:12:23 UTC

I see nothing wrong with this.

2019-07-29 22:12:51 UTC

Because minimum wage should not be a resting point for an individual.

2019-07-29 22:13:09 UTC

and yet most of these jobs need to be filled

2019-07-29 22:13:22 UTC

Should be by teens.

2019-07-29 22:14:12 UTC

Minimum wage is an entrance point and indicates the employee is high risk/low skill as a result of limited work history.

2019-07-29 22:15:22 UTC

However, I will give that raising it with inflation in mind is not a bad compromise point.

2019-07-29 22:16:35 UTC

lauc - could be employeer taking advantage of a skilled worker who had low self worth

2019-07-29 22:16:57 UTC

The employee is responsible for moving on, then.

2019-07-29 22:17:13 UTC

what if they enjoy their job? and its not about $$ for them

2019-07-29 22:17:35 UTC

Then they should find one that is adequate to cover the ends.

2019-07-29 22:17:48 UTC

and more to the point, what of the small business that can only afford unskilled labour

2019-07-29 22:17:59 UTC

also tons of markets do employee turnaround... thus keeping costs low... example hotels and restaurants

2019-07-29 22:18:14 UTC

or the hospitalities industry

2019-07-29 22:18:21 UTC

as the whole thing*

2019-07-29 22:18:22 UTC

Raising minimum wage hurts small biz foremost.

2019-07-29 22:18:23 UTC

you know, jobs that need to be done

2019-07-29 22:19:06 UTC

Which is in consideration of why I said small incremental increase over time.

2019-07-29 22:19:17 UTC

exactly

2019-07-29 22:19:51 UTC

I'm just leary of large increases that crush the chance for small biz.

2019-07-29 22:21:05 UTC

u make it seem like small biz isnt getting annihilated anyways

2019-07-29 22:21:38 UTC

like walmart moves into an area... and within a year basically any small biz that tries to compete in with anything walmart sells... have disappeared
