Shit like Looney Tunes (and others, by different companies) were supposed to be appetizers before feature films. As such, they had to have elements for all ages. When TV started to take over as a primary means of visual entertainment, it was only natural the same ideas and concepts would make the transition. Which is why you get shows, either live or animated, that had broad appeal for all ages and both sexes.
