I found /his/ after watching Dovahhatty's videos called 'Unbiased Rome'.
Most based shit I'd watched in a good while and I enjoyed it.
I know it's edgy jokes and all but all too often I see people examining historical civilisations who will then insult or demean them for their cultures or traditions.
And I'm sat here thinking "how do you propose to understand how these people viewed the world if you don't take their perspective?"
I love it so much
Nice, I'm gonna put it on now, thanks for the incidental recomendation
Like people who say Rome and Athens didn't operate anything democratic because women couldn't vote. That's just projecting modern expectations onto historical civilisations and then degrading their status because they had their own views.
Hearing the true history of rome without revisionist lenses has been great
It is fun Spooky.
It's a chronological order so start from the first.
Sparta had female biased inheritance laws and that destroyed sparta
fuckin women, amirite?
Sparta went from mustering thousands of soldiers to just a few towards the end of it
If I remember rightly, when a Spartan man died his estate and property went to his wife, who then divided it equally between her sons and daughters. The daughters inherited from their mother and then from their own husbands and combined the wealth and passed it onto *their* daughters,
Repeat that over generations.
And then there was a small group of women with like, most of the wealth.
Even the kings of Sparta had to go to them for loans.
The spartan heresies
The richest people in sparta
Athens was full of pedos tho
A woman's dowry was her inheritance, and if a woman was the sole heir of her father, she was married to her uncle or something.

GeĆmoroi, also called agroikoi, or GeĆrgoi, class of citizens in ancient Greek society. In 7th-century-BC Attic society, geĆmoroi were freemen, generally peasant farm holders, lower on the social and political scale than the eupatridae, the aristocracy, but above the dÄmiourgoi, the artisans. The geĆmoroi were ineligible for any major political or religious post but had the right to attend sessions of the Assembly. In 580 BC, three geĆmoroi shared the archonship (magistracy) with five eupatridae and two dÄmiourgoi.
Nah I say it means ass pain
