Transport planes are too big to take off from carriers. The Pacific theatre was island hopping. Iwo Jima was important because it could reach Japan. A plane from Long Island couldn’t reach to London and back in the 1940. Most planes can barely do that today and if the us were to attack the uk it would suck in Germany
