the person pulling the strings always looks like the villain even tho they're mostly the scientist in the narrative making observations and interactions...til the player realizes the one behaving like the string puller is actually reporting to those that really pull the strings

and the player is the rat or mouse in the maze of the experiment

and if the assumed villain is also in the situation then they're just as much as a cheese treat or another mouse/rat in the maze as well
