I thought I would do some research on American slavery and I found out that in 1654 the first known legal slave owner was a black man by the name of Anthony Johnson which people considered a "free negro". The man had a total of five slaves one claimed he was being held past his contract, but when given to the courts the black slave owned by Anthony was stationed to work for him for life.
