@Tero we were looking at cast iron, because what else

2019-11-18 11:57:37 UTC

Especially in the long term look at things

2019-11-18 11:57:56 UTC

I might grab one though, although I don’t cook too much that I wish I had a wok for

2019-11-18 11:58:03 UTC

Suggestions for things to make that require a wok?

2019-11-18 11:58:28 UTC

asians use woks for everything <:pepe_smile:378719407977005068>

2019-11-18 11:58:38 UTC

steaming dumplings, making soup

2019-11-18 11:58:55 UTC

I steamed some chicken in my skillet earlier tonight

2019-11-18 11:59:02 UTC

Before turning it into shredded chicken for burritos

2019-11-18 11:59:09 UTC

Which I then seared closed on my skillet

based

2019-11-18 11:59:45 UTC

yeah chinks particularly seem fond of having stuff that they can use for everything
like the cleaver

2019-11-18 12:00:02 UTC

I think a large wok would work with my largest burner

2019-11-18 12:00:05 UTC

@Tero skillet is used for everything

2019-11-18 12:00:11 UTC

Wok doesn’t have a flat surface

2019-11-18 12:00:49 UTC

the other choice is carbon steel, but i don't really think it works very well on electric

2019-11-18 12:00:59 UTC

Why wouldn’t it?

2019-11-18 12:01:08 UTC

Electric is just a physical what transfer patch

2019-11-18 12:01:09 UTC

Ngl

2019-11-18 12:01:17 UTC

Cast iron doesn’t work great on electric

2019-11-18 12:01:36 UTC

The weird hot spots can fuck with the seasoning, so you have to heat your cookware pretty slow

2019-11-18 12:01:36 UTC

well for mine, it deformed slightly because the metal is very flexible, and so it doesn't sit or heat evenly

2019-11-18 12:01:58 UTC

Wouldn’t aluminum suffer the same thing?

2019-11-18 12:02:02 UTC

no

2019-11-18 12:02:14 UTC

And I thought you didn’t have an electric stove

2019-11-18 12:02:21 UTC

aluminium would be thicker

2019-11-18 12:02:33 UTC

Eh, I suppose

2019-11-18 12:02:44 UTC

I wonder what the heat expansion on aluminum is like

2019-11-18 12:02:45 UTC

Brb

2019-11-18 12:03:42 UTC

Steel has a way lower coefficient of expansion than aluminum

2019-11-18 12:03:43 UTC

Like

2019-11-18 12:03:46 UTC

Wayyyyy lower

2019-11-18 12:03:58 UTC

2/5s as much

2019-11-18 12:04:09 UTC

Same for cast iron

2019-11-18 12:05:52 UTC

just have a look at how thick these walls are though
and they usually sit on an even thicker base

2019-11-18 12:06:03 UTC

True

2019-11-18 12:06:20 UTC

But they’d have to be 2.5 times as thick as the steel

2019-11-18 12:06:32 UTC

Although idk how thickness plays into other parts

2019-11-18 12:06:39 UTC

Point is electric stoves kinda suck

2019-11-18 12:06:44 UTC

Lol
