In America there was huge expansion and immigration from the 1880s on to about 1924. At that time a pause in immigration was set to allow the multitudes to settle in. This lasted to the early 1960s. Only special cases and a few asylums came in. You had to learn some english and find your own work no welfare. We may need that now or the country will split.
