@Fitzydog real talk, how does digital piracy affect the NAP?

2019-03-30 03:01:36 UTC

Oh, that's easy

2019-03-30 03:01:51 UTC

AnCaps don't believe in intellectual property rights

2019-03-30 03:01:57 UTC

ah

2019-03-30 03:02:36 UTC

Or, at least, its the duty of an individual to protect their own intellectual property

2019-03-30 03:02:56 UTC

@Fitzydog <:think_woke:378717098681171988>

2019-03-30 03:03:05 UTC

send a death squad to take out the pirates

2019-03-30 03:03:05 UTC

Multiple other reports of police coming for people at home and work for their firearms. Real totalitarian shit here.

2019-03-30 03:03:33 UTC

Yeah, I'd love to see that arbitration case between the insurance companies and the offending company lol

2019-03-30 03:03:54 UTC

@Jym Where?

2019-03-30 03:05:21 UTC

2019-03-30 03:05:25 UTC

@Nordhand good find

2019-03-30 03:08:18 UTC

@Fitzydog `Or, at least, its the duty of an individual to protect their own intellectual property`
like, with guns?

2019-03-30 03:08:48 UTC

@Tero Like, with airgapped computers and security guards at their building

2019-03-30 03:08:49 UTC

and, could you contract out this duty to an organisation like.. some kind of police force + judiciary?

2019-03-30 03:09:27 UTC

oh shit is it ancap hours?

2019-03-30 03:09:38 UTC

Good luck trying to convince a judge that your filesharing is the same thing as hacking into a computer inside a secure facility

2019-03-30 03:10:01 UTC

looks like you got something to do on a friday night other than masterbate to commie porn @Fitzydog

There are other ways to protect information. How do you avoid being doxed? By being careful about the information you reveal. Or contributing misinformation. There are also contractual protections like NDAs and NCCs.

2019-03-30 03:10:46 UTC

^ Yep, exactly

2019-03-30 03:11:11 UTC

Copyright and trademark law are a byproduct of state protectionism

2019-03-30 03:11:40 UTC

they are merely mechanisms which encourage people to share their intellectual property, rather than guarding it as a secret

2019-03-30 03:11:54 UTC

because as mentioned, without IP protections, anything shared is out for good

2019-03-30 03:12:40 UTC

Had a NCC expire this year. In the process of deciding if I should switch jobs again. I can make more money but on the other hand it's pretty chill where I am and they basically let me run my own show.

2019-03-30 03:12:41 UTC

But it's interesting that the tech industry is moving towards open source anyways, and focusing on their market share of production.

Like Intel, for example

2019-03-30 03:13:51 UTC

`moving towards open source anyways`
eh, any important code tends to be run on company servers only, accessible via a locked down web api

2019-03-30 03:14:27 UTC

@Fitzydog open source is gay

2019-03-30 03:14:33 UTC

@M4Gunner can attest to that

2019-03-30 03:14:39 UTC

See? Already we're seeing solutions.

IP law is just Disney j00s exerting their control over govt

2019-03-30 03:15:10 UTC

@galesteppes Tell that to RISCV

2019-03-30 03:15:24 UTC

yeah copyright is pretty gay how long it is, should be adjusted down to the original 7 years or so

2019-03-30 03:15:57 UTC

patent chaining is another gay one, though in general i do think patents have been a positive

2019-03-30 03:18:15 UTC

There is a private law solution to patent law, if your private arbitration networks agree on a system of standards, and bar their customers from stealing patents from other people in neighboring networks

2019-03-30 03:23:09 UTC

how does a private arbitration network enforce its decisions/rules though

2019-03-30 03:23:35 UTC

@Fitzydog how does slavery (voluntary/involuntary) interact with the nap?

2019-03-30 03:24:54 UTC

@Tero Contractually, and agreed upon best practices

2019-03-30 03:24:59 UTC

LUL

2019-03-30 03:25:07 UTC

no no i said enforce
