Imagine trying to argue that people with mental illnesses aren't people. Guess what, lots of otherwise normal people have mental illnesses. Which mental illnesses are you ruling out and why? Have you ever met any of these people yourself?

We were discussing alternatives for societies unable to support prison for all.

The USA could save a lot of money on prisons if they didn't have super long sentences for minor offenses

And if they focused on rehabilitation to prevent repeat offenses.

Also we'd get more tax money from productive citizens.
