Hey there and welcome @ThatGuitarGuy @SinisterMJ and @Reformed
Hi
Cheers
How are you all doing today?
Stayed home from work, sick 😛 So mediocre 😃
Nothing much, just studying for my sem finals
Hopefully nothing too bad
Sore threat, and hard time swallowing. Runny nose, so nah, nothing too bad, just plain annoying
Surprised they let you stay off for that :p
Germany...
I can call sick for what I want, and I was not feeling like researching in this state 😄
If its more than 3 days absence, I have to have a doctor verify the issue.
For 1 day, and irregularly, its fine.
@SinisterMJ if its hard time swallowing, you might want to see a doctor, there's a chance of tonsillitis
Its my first day, there is a chance that is it. But I will check how it is tomorrow
Yea leaping to tonsilitis is a bit much, can find it difficult to swallow without that
heyy
Hi there
I get what you are saying but reading all those symptoms actually points to a good chance it being tonsillitis
Idk, I know someone with almost the exact same symptoms recently that had their tonsils removed when they were younger
Yes that is needed to be done in cases of chronic tonsillitis but not in cases of acute tonsillitis, and from what he stated, if its tonsillitis he most probably has acute viral tonsillitis
Yeah, it feels like an inflammation
And do you have any earache or headache ?
my ear felt strange
Yup you have tonsillitis
I am 98% sure
No, I mean, they had those symptoms *after* they were removed. They were removed years ago
That can happen, as it may be a tonsillotomy instead of tonsillectomy
In tonsillotomy, its partial removal, whereas in tonsillectomy, its total removal of tonsils
Then there's the fact when we say tonsillectomy, it means that we are removing just the palatine tonsils only but not the nasopharyngeal tonsil, lingual tonsil and the tubal tonsils
If those are problems for people who get tonsillitus and subsequently have the tonsils removed, why are those not taken out as well? Is it not possible?
Its possible, but the tonsils actually form a part of our body's immune system
So actually we tend to avoid it unless necessary
That's the thing though, in this day and age, because we are able to deal better with issues, tonsils are usually only taken out when it is a recurrent problem for the individual. So in that circumstance I would tend to think that removal of those parts as constituting necessary
I know a guy who wanted to take them out to give better oral.
Never understood that logic.
That's the thing, recurrent throat infection is actually the most common indication of tonsillectomy.
And about that guy neither will I.
Now I gotta go and study as I have an exam of otorhinolaryngology at 8 am and its 12:30 am here, so I need to study, bye
Good luck ^^
