I will say, during the final months of the Civil War, General Lee pressed the President Davis of the Confederacy to at least allow african americans to serve in the Army as the Confederacy was becoming extremely undermanned, which Davis reluctantly agree'd, however the platoons that would form wouldnt see any combat as they were barely being deployed when Lee surrendered at Appomattox
