Or wife
Rhetorically
@BrenDan because in Japanese, with a few exceptions, there is always a vowel following a consonant. In this case, in an effort to make an English word into Japanese, Wife becomes
γ―γ€γ or wa-i-hu.
"Hu" in hiragana is part of the family of characters that start with "h" (γ― haγγ² hiγγ΅ huγγΈ heγγ» ho).
But γ΅ hu is pronounced with an "f". Katakana is the written language that they use for borrowed words. My first example of γ―γ€γ is katakana. With "γ" being "hu" but still using hiragana rules, pronounced "fu". That ends today's episode of "On TIL".
@kriegor191 Are you Japanese?
And most u's aren't pronounced in Japanese kana @Vampyre_Empress
E.g. Desu is pronounced Des or Tanjirou is pronounced Tanjiro
No. Not in the slightest. 25% Irish/scot 50% Wales/English 25% Norway/ European mutt
@Vampyre_Empress I fancy myself something of an omniglot. Languages are a lot of fun, I just don't have the time to commit. Language history and theory I feel are very important to the human race as a whole.
I love learning jp
that's racist... using white-face. You must be cancelled, @kriegor191. LOL
Ps5 be like
@silentlore |*FREEHK*ππ°ββ @kriegor191 thanks guys. I feel learned. Haha
@BobiusPrime I actually look at the news while pooping so I have the same expression.
Finna frame this shoe as a memorial to sanity. Yes. It is on the wrong foot and my 3 year old did it himself
Blonde hair? Thats appropriating white culture...wait I'm being handed a note....apparently thats fine.
@kriegor191 nice. I'm fluent in Spanish; conversational in French and ASL; but only know a few words/phrases in Chinese and Arabic. I love languages but need people to practice with me.
@Vampyre_Empress Es tut mir leid, dass Sie keine Deutsch sprechen kΓΆnnen.
My dad and my sister both are extremely multi lingual, unfortunately all I have is my German
Which does mean I get to enjoy Rammstein so that is a plus
@Downskated The ultimate plus
What most people that don't speak German don't realize about Rammstein they use some words and certain phrases in German that have more connotation and significance Beyond just the English translation
Oh yeah, German is a fascinating language in that regard. Du hast. Two meanings. The song works for _both_ .
Yeah, and I feel like explaining it to non-german speakers loses something in the translation
@kriegor191 just not talented enough to learn it.
@Downskated That's how I feel about some Spanish phrases.
The only Spanish phrase that I know from my Spanish class in middle school is can I go to the bathroom
@Downskated A very useful phrase.
Oh that's good you timed that perfectly
In honor of it I'll give you a special meme, one especially for the ladies
